The "Genius" there told me the circuit board under the track pad was bad, necessitating replacement of the entire top case. I noticed that when I was having the problem I could apply pressure to the portion of the top-case just between the trackpad and the keyboard and this would get the I said this is something I would expect from a PC not a $2000+ mac.
